Setting Up Your Directory

Once we have received your agreement to our Terms of Service, we will set up the directory on our server for your Home Page.

File Naming Procedures

The name of the starting file of your home page should be index.htm or index.html

This is the standard for home page file names. It will allow those who wish to view your pages to do so more easily.

Your other web pages have any name, but if possible should be 8 characters or less. Example: helpdesk.html

Software for Uploading

You will need an FTP program to upload your web pages to our server. There are two very good FTP programs available for PC and Macintosh Users. Please note that some of the programs are shareware and that if you continue to use the program, you should pay for the product.
PC Users

When you download the following FTP software you will need to "Unzip" the file or expand it before it is used. Download the WinZip software from Nico Mak Computing, Inc. , and install it on your computer:

Macintosh Users

When you download the following FTP software you will need to "UnStuff" the file or expand it before it is used. Download the following StuffIt Expander software from Aladdin Systems , and install it on your computer. This software is free after registering.

Macintosh Users should use Fetch. Click on the link to download the software from Dartmouth College . This is Shareware, so please read the Licensing Information to determine your cost for the software.

Uploading your Web Page

Your web page is to be uploaded to server ftp.carr.org via an FTP connection. Use your email address and password to logon. You will automatically gain access to your individual directory.

When you have gained access to your directory, you may begin uploading the files you wish to be on the server following the directions for your particular FTP software.

Once you have finished uploading your files, the address for your home page will be: http://www.carr.org/~your_username
