How do I set up my email ?
While the setup procedure for each email client is different, there are several things that remain the same. Your email server type is a POP3 server. You will need to know your incoming mail server (POP3) and outgoing mail server (SMTP). Both the incoming and outgoing server name is ccplmail.carr.org
Most email clients also need to know your POP3 user name which is the same as the logon name that we assigned you. Your email password is also the same as the one that we assigned you with you logon name unless you have changed it.
You can find more help on the Setup Instructions and Manuals page.

My connection dials without letting me enter username and password.
You need to reset your Dial-Up Connection settings to have the connect screen pause input information. In Windows 95/98, double click on "My Computer" then double-click on "Dial Up Networking." At the top of the dial up networking window you will see several menu entries. Click on the one that says "Connections" and then select "Settings." On the settings screen put a check mark in the box that says "Prompt for information before dialing." Click on the "OK" button to save your changes. The next time you start your connection a window will open to allow you to insert your username and password. After inserting the username and password click on the button that says connect or "OK" to start your dial-up connection.

Why can't I get a 56k connection with my new modem ?
Getting a 56k connection and maintaining that speed depends on numerous variables, most of which are out of our control. The main three factors are:
- The number of digital to analog conversions the phone company routes your call through. The phone company uses two types of signals to carry your call, digital and analog. If during the routing of your call they change from digital to analog more than one time you will not be able to get a 56k connection.
- The physical distance that you are located from the phone companies central switching station for your exchange. If you are more than 2 1/2 miles you will not be able to obtain a 56k connection.
- Also note that the FCC limits the actual speed of a telephone line to 53k.
The quality of you phone line, both inside and outside, of your house also has a big part in obtaining a high speed connection. The average connect speed in this area is 26.4 to 28.8, but as the phone company improves the equipment connections may improve.
Please visit our technical support page for more information on 56k connections.

Illegal Operation Error Message?
All programs can at one time or another cause an illegal operation error. It normally means that the program tried to write to a protected area in memory. If this happens consistently with one particular program, you may need to reinstall the software package that is crashing on you. If it happens with different programs on a fairly frequent basis, it could be a problem with the win 95/98 operating system itself, and you may need to reinstall the operating system. Please contact the software manufacturer for help.
